TcLand Expression’s ambition is to become a major player in personalized medicine in immunology. For this purpose, TcLand’s management team is made up of highly experienced professionals, specialized in all steps of biomarker development.

Management team biographies

Alain Huriez
Chief Executive Officer

Alain Huriez MD, is since mid 2006 Chief Executive Officer of TcLand Expression. Alain is one the company’s co-founders.

Alain is also the founder and chairman of EPEMED (European Personalized Medicine association  www.epemed.org). EPEMED is a European, not for profit organization bringing together global forces in personalized medicine and aims to provide a platform for the harmonization of personalized medicine development and implementation across Europe, focusing on the crucial role of diagnostics, to make personalized medicine a reality.

From early 2003 to mid 2006 Alain was CEO at Neovacs SA, a company developing therapeutic vaccines. Alain brings an experience of general management and financing in the biotechnology sector, in various executive positions as Associate Partner Biotech at Truffle Capital, a €220m VC fund (2002-2003), Vice-President Quintiles Europe, the world’s largest CRO (1999-2002), in charge of the Biotechnology Consulting Group, a separate entity that he founded, specialized in offering strategic counsel to biotechnology listed companies in Europe and the USA. As Vice President of the Biotechnology Consulting Group, Alain set up EU subsidiaries for TSE/NASDAQ listed biotechnology companies. Alain brings also fifteen years of experience in biotech drug development, from pre-clinical to registration in several executive positions both in the pharmaceutical (GSK) and in the service industry (MDS, Innovex, Quintiles).

Alain is Medical Doctor, holds a Post Graduate degree in Business Administration (MBA) and a Masters of Pharmaco-Economics from the University of Paris I Sorbonne.

Prior to joining the Pharmaceutical Industry, he worked 1 year as head of an emergency room in a large teaching hospital and practiced 2 years as General Practitioner. Alain supports and triggers several biotechnology initiatives in France, is Vice President of LEEM Biotech and member of the EBE Personalized Task Force in Brussels.

Peter Payne
Chief Business Officer and Head of US Operations

Peter Payne is Chief Business Officer and Head of US Operations.

Peter joined TcLand from Quintiles Transnational Corp where he was latterly Vice President Corporate Development and responsible for the development of relationships at a strategic level with a portfolio of biopharmaceutical companies, Venture Capital funds and other financial institutions.  Peter’s experience in directing in-depth portfolio analysis to create proactive development and commercialization strategies enables him to propose innovative business models and customized solutions to help biopharma companies manage risk.

During his extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and related industries, Peter has held a variety of positions covering pre-clinical and exploratory research, clinical development, sales management and business management. Peter gained his initial experience in the pharmaceutical industry with Wellcome, Sterling Drug and Glaxo. In 1990, he relocated to Paris, France to take a position with the French CRO, ITEM, subsequently becoming Director of Clinical Operations.  In 1994, he established the French affiliate of Innovex and was Managing Director of this affiliate until 1998, a period which included the acquisition of Innovex by Quintiles.   Peter held a number of positions within Quintiles including Executive Director of Investigator Services, Executive Director of Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolism Therapeutics, Vice President of Internal Medicine Therapeutics and Vice President, Corporate Development.

Peter received an Honors degree in pharmacology from the University of Manchester, UK, and has completed postgraduate training in Executive Leadership at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School and Corporate Finance at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He has presented his work at more than a dozen professional conferences around the world and has authored articles on transformational change in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Philippe Jaffré
Chief Financial Officer

Philippe Jaffré joined TcLand Expression in May 2007. After developing the division’s financial strategy and organization in Europe as Finance Director Europe Middle East & Africa, Blood Testing Division at Chiron Corp. in Paris in the years 2001/2002, Philippe Jaffré joined the Medical Nutrition Division of Novartis. Initially, he served in Munich as Head of Business Planning & Analysis for Germany and Austria, more recently at EMEA level ($400m in annual revenue) at Division World Headquarters in Geneva. Previously, he has held different senior positions in the finance arena in France with the US-based car component manufacturer Dana and its subsidiary Dana Capital (Heller Financial) specialized in financial services. He is a graduate from the Nice Business School and holds an MBA from the Pennsylvania State University.

Marina Guillet
VP Head of Laboratory

Marina Guillet co-founded TcLand Expression. During her PhD thesis, she specialized in transplantation immunology and in particular in the T cell receptor regulation. In parallel, she attended two management courses (Nantes and Paris Dauphine). She is the author of patents related to an Immunomonitoring tool (TcLandscape) and biomarkers in transplantation. From 2002 to mid 2006, she was Chief Executive Officer of TcLand SA. She was honored by the French Research Ministry in 2002 when she received the special award for the most promising PhD – entrepreneur.

Alessandra Cervino
VP R&D and Biostatistics

Previous to joining TcLand Expression in September 2008, Prof. Alessandra Cervino was Head of Statistical Sciences and Assistant Professor at Scripps Florida, where she conducted the first genome wide study of lupus and developed an innovative workflow that combines genotypic and Transcriptomic data to identify novel genes. She also held a pioneering role as the first group leader in statistical genetics at Rosetta/Merck in the USA, where she played a leading role in translating genetic research programs into new drug targets and pharmacogenomic programs. Other research experience includes The Twin Research Unit at Kings College London, OxfordGlycoSciences, and the University of Glasgow. Prof. Cervino has lectured in prestigious universities, is the author of a book and many international publications in leading journals including Nature Genetics. She holds a PhD. in Clinical Medicine from the University of Oxford. She also holds an MSc in Biometry from the University of Reading and a Mathematics degree from the Free University in Brussels (ULB). She jointly holds an honorary senior lectureship from Kings College London.

Jérôme d’Enfert
Chief Medical Officer

Jérôme d’Enfert began his pharmaceutical career with Pharmuka in 1984 as medical manager of anti-infectives and then in 1985 for Laboratoires Roussel. In 1989, he was named international group product manager of anti-infectives for Roussel Uclaf. In 1992, he became the Head of the anti-infectives business unit and, in 1994, director of clinical development. J. d’Enfert was appointed Head of International Marketing for Hoechst Marion Roussel in 1995, based in New Jersey. In 1998 he took the responsibility of R&D in Japan for Hoechst Marion Roussel then Aventis. In 2001 he came back to France where he headed France Medical Affairs, Europe Medical Affairs for Aventis (2003). He was Head of sanofi-aventis Global Medical Affairs from 2004 to 2008. More recently, from March 2008 till February 2011he was the Head of Medical Affairs for Roche in France.

Jérôme d’Enfert earned his Medical Doctor degree from Montpellier in France in 1980. He became a specialist in Anesthesiology and Intensive care in 1981. He was an assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in Paris, France, from 1981 to 1984.

Hasnae Niang-Picot
Quality Manager

Hasnae Niang-Picot joined TcLand Expression in January 2008 at the head of the Quality Management Department. She holds an MSc in Control and Quality Assurance from the University of Pharmacy in Paris V/XI and Magistere of Biotechnology from University of Paris XI. She started her career at Genoscope where she worked in DNA sequencing projects, then joined Genethon (gene therapy center) where she was in charge of the characterization of proteins implicated in Muscular Dystrophy. She then worked for several years in biotechnology and biopharmaceuticals companies, Biotrial (CRO), Vivalis (CMO), Eurofins scientifics (a subsidiary for bio-analytical DNA forensic testing), where she coordinated implementation and development of the quality system integrating GLP (Good Laboratory Practices), GMP (Good Manufactory Practices) and ISO 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories).

Florence Lazard
Director Intellectual Property

Before joining TcLand Expression in January 2008, as part-time Director, IP and Contracts, Florence Lazard practiced a consulting activity in Intellectual Property strategy after heading Technology Transfer and licensing department of Institut Curie. She spent 10 years in academic research, 3 years in pharmaceutical R&D, and 25 years in IP, licensing, Business development, and Technology Transfer in academic institutions and industry. She practiced between 1992 and 2003 as a patent attorney in an Intellectual property law firm, where she was a partner from 1995. She holds a PhD in Biology, registered as a qualified person in Intellectual Property, and Patent expert attached to the Paris Court of Appeal.
